Taxonomy: Dicaeum aeneum Pucheran, 1853, San Jorge, near Santa Isabel, Solomon Islands. Forms a superspecies with D. nehrkorni, D. erythrothorax, D. vulneratum, D. pectorale, D. geelvinkianum, D. nitidum and D. eximium. Up to 8% difference found between subspecies using mDNA markers.
