Yellow-breasted Bowerbird

Taxonomy: Chlamydodera lauterbachi Reichenow, 1897, Jagei River, upper Ramu, eastern New Guinea. Two subspecies recognized

Diagnostic description: 

Brownish-olive upperparts plumage, grayish-yellow upper breast, coppery crown, dark brown iris, yellow underparts, a black bill and pinkish-orange mouth. Both sexes are similar. The female is duller than the male.

Taxonomy: Chlamydodera lauterbachi Reichenow, 1897, Jagei River, upper Ramu, eastern New Guinea.
Two subspecies recognized.

Distribution: 

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • uniformis Rothschild, 1931 - C New Guinea from Siriwo R (of Geelvink Bay) E to upper Ramu R and to Okapa-Aiyura area of Eastern Highlands.
  • lauterbachi Reichenow, 1897 - Aiome area of upper Ramu R, possibly also near Bogadjim (in Finisterre Mts), in NE New Guinea.
Habitat: 

It inhabits the grasslands, lowlands, and subtropical mountain forests.

Trophic strategy: 

Its diet consists mainly of fruits, caterpillars, beetles, and other insects. The nest is a shallow cup made of small sticks up in a tree.
