Phylogeny: 

Taxonomy: Myzomela eichhorni Rothschild and E. J. O. Hartert, 1901, Kolombangara, Solomon Islands. Forms a superspecies with M. pammelaena, M. lafargei, M. melanocephala, M. malaitae and M. tristrami, and formerly suggested that all may be conspecific; this group possibly closely related to the M. cardinalis superspecies.
